Pope Francis Addresses Health and Mobility Issues
Pope Francis has recently opened up about his health and the challenges he faces due to mobility issues. Since 2022, the pontiff has been using a wheelchair to manage the pain in his knee, which has significantly impacted his ability to move around.
In his newly published autobiography, “Hope”, pope Francis reassures his followers that he is in good health despite the physical limitations. He firmly ruled out the possibility of resigning from his position, stating, “The reality is, quite simply, that I am old.”
Initially, the Pope found it ”embarrassing” to use a wheelchair, but he has as come to terms with the realities of aging. “Old age never arrives by itself, and it must be accepted for what it is indeed,” he remarked.
Despite his mobility issues, Pope Francis remains committed to his duties. “The Church is governed using the head and the heart, not the legs,” he said. He continues to undergo physiotherapy twice a week, uses a walking stick, and takes as many steps as he can to maintain his mobility.
In early December, pope Francis appeared with a noticeable bruise on his chin after falling and hitting his bedside table during the night. This incident highlighted the ongoing challenges he faces due to his mobility issues.
Through his candid reflections, Pope Francis continues to inspire many with his resilience and dedication to his role, demonstrating that physical limitations do not hinder his spiritual and administrative responsibilities.
