₦35 Billion in Funding Announced for Nigerian Small Businesses
A combined ₦35 billion in funding has been pledged to support Nigerian entrepreneurs and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) through initiatives launched by the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) and the Growth Impact Business Coalition (GIBC).
Yesterday, SMEDAN announced a ₦20 million pitch competition designed to identify and empower promising Nigerian entrepreneurs. Simultaneously, the GIBC unveiled a ₦15 billion fund intended to benefit 10,000 businesses, with support from Trade Lenda. The GIBC funding will be distributed ahead of the 2025 Impact Conference, scheduled to take place next year. This influx of capital aims to address a critical need for financing among Nigerian SMEs, which often struggle to access traditional lending options.
The GIBC’s ₦15 billion initiative is designed to provide crucial financial resources to help SMEs scale their operations and contribute to economic growth. According to the World Bank, SMEs account for over 90% of businesses in Nigeria and contribute significantly to employment. The funding window is now open for applications, and the GIBC is actively seeking eligible businesses to participate.
These announcements follow ongoing efforts to bolster Nigeria’s entrepreneurial ecosystem, including the upcoming National MSME Conference 2025, focused on innovation, resilience, and prosperity. Further details on the conference will be released in the coming weeks. Officials stated that the combined initiatives represent a significant step towards rewriting Nigeria’s entrepreneurial future and fostering a more robust and diversified economy.
The GIBC and SMEDAN will continue to accept applications and provide updates on the disbursement of funds in the coming months.
