Police are investigating after a 10-year-old boy was found driving a car in central Norway.
On Friday evening, police in Innlandet County responded to a traffic accident.
A vehicle had left the roadway and entered a ditch.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered that the driver was a 10-year-old boy.
The boy’s father was a passenger in the car.
“The boy was allowed to try driving,” the father explained, according to operations leader Ove Stian Ovrum.
No one was injured in the incident.
“But this could have easily been much worse,” Ovrum said.
The accident occurred on a municipal road in a relatively populated area, according to the operations leader. Police received the report at 8:15 PM.
“The vehicle left the road at a low speed,” Ovrum stated.
The father is facing charges. Police have also temporarily suspended his driver’s license.
“It goes without saying that a 10-year-old is not mature enough to drive a car. Police are taking this very seriously,” Ovrum said.
The boy will have to wait six years before he can legally practice driving.
