Leipzig Bus Driver in Coma Following Violent Assault by 13-Year-Classic
A 62-year-old public transit driver in Leipzig, Germany, remains in a coma after being severely assaulted by a 13-year-old passenger on April 1, 2026. The incident, which occurred around 7:00 PM on bus line 90, has sparked concerns over the safety of transit workers and the integration of migrant youth.
The confrontation began when the driver asked a group of young migrants to lower their volume and remain calm after they had become excessively loud, disturbing other passengers. According to police reports, this request prompted one of the youths to violently attack the driver.
Local reports indicate the assault took place near the Sophienstraße stop, where the 13-year-old reportedly struck the driver in the head three times. The force of the blows caused the driver to collapse and bleed profusely before he was transported to a nearby hospital.
Even as in the hospital, medical staff diagnosed the victim with a stroke. Although, officials noted that it remains unclear whether the stroke was a direct result of the physical assault, as the man had shown no prior symptoms before the incident. The driver has since undergone surgery and remains in a comatose state.
The assailant has been identified as a 13-year-old migrant from Iraq who is described as a known recidivist and is not currently enrolled in any educational institution. Despite the severity of the injuries, the attacker cannot be prosecuted under German law because he is under the age of 14.
This violent attack on public transport underscores growing regional tensions regarding the social integration of migrant populations in European urban centers and the increasing vulnerability of frontline service employees.
