Kia’s strategic expansion into the electric commercial vehicle sector is gaining further momentum with the introduction of the Vantrack LC, a modular “Light Camper” conversion designed for the Kia PV5 Passenger. This development underscores the versatility of Kia’s new Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) business, which aims to transition the electric van from a simple transport tool into a customizable mobility solution.

Modular Architecture and Utility

The Vantrack LC is positioned not as a permanent, heavy camper conversion, but as a flexible “Light Camper” system. According to the developer, the interior is constructed from ultra-lightweight components and features individually removable modules. This modular approach allows owners to transition the vehicle between daily urban utilize and outdoor adventure setups seamlessly.

Modular Architecture and Utility

Key features of the interior basecamp include a wide removable bed, a spacious rear garage for sports gear and luggage, and a mobile induction cooking station. The vehicle’s exterior is enhanced by a layered rooftop architecture, consisting of an aerodynamic roof rack and a 96x65cm skylight window that increases interior standing height and ventilation. The system is completed by an ultra-lightweight, repositionable rooftop tent.

The Kia PBV Strategic Framework

The PV5 is the first production model from Kia’s PBV lineup, which ranges from the compact PV1 to the full-size PV7. Built on the advanced E-GMP.S platform, the PV5 is designed for high adaptability, with Kia offering variants including Passenger, Cargo, Freezer Box, and Light Camper configurations.

In the United Kingdom, pre-orders for the PV5 opened on May 1, 2025, with the Cargo model starting at £27,645 (approximately $37,000) and the Passenger model starting at £32,995 (approximately $44,000). The vehicle’s physical dimensions are 4,695 mm in length, 1,895 mm in width, and 1,899 mm in height.

Performance is driven by two battery options:

  • 51.5 kWh battery: Delivering a WLTP range of 179 miles for the Passenger model and 181 miles for the Cargo model.
  • 71.2 kWh battery: Providing a WLTP range of 249 miles for the Passenger model and 247 miles for the Cargo model.

Global Market Expansion and U.S. Testing

While the PV5 is currently available in South Korea and Europe, there is ongoing speculation regarding its entry into the North American market. The vehicle was recently spotted testing in Ann Arbor, Michigan, equipped with amber front and red rear side-marker lights—features required specifically for U.S. Regulatory compliance.

However, Kia has remained cautious regarding a formal U.S. Launch. A company spokesperson stated that the U.S. Serves as a vital hub for research and development due to its diverse terrain and weather, noting that “PV5 testing in the U.S. Does not imply plans for its sale in this market.”

The integration of third-party modular systems like the Vantrack LC suggests a growing ecosystem around the PBV platform, potentially increasing the vehicle’s appeal to a broader demographic of professional and recreational users.
