One Battle After Another dominated the 98th Academy Awards on Sunday, taking home six Oscars, including the night’s biggest prize: Best Picture. Paul Thomas Anderson also won awards for Best Directing and Best Supporting Actor, solidifying his place as a leading voice in contemporary cinema.
The film also secured wins for Best Editing and Best Adapted Screenplay, and made history with the first-ever Oscar for Best Casting. Accepting his award, Anderson joked, “You build a guy work hard for one of these, I really appreciate it.” The director has been nominated for an Oscar around a dozen times previously.
Michael B. Jordan also had a triumphant night, winning Best Actor for his dual role in Sinners as twins Smoke and Stack. In his acceptance speech, Jordan paid tribute to the actors who paved the way, thanking “the Black actors who came before me.” Sinners cinematographer Autumn Durald Arkapaw also broke barriers, becoming the first woman to win the Oscar for Best Cinematography.
Frankenstein received three Oscar statuettes, while KPop Demon Hunters nabbed two, including an Oscar for Best Original Song. The awards for Best Live Action Short Film were shared by two films: Two People Exchanging Saliva and The Singers.
The ceremony included a moving tribute to those in the industry who died in 2025. Billy Crystal led the remembrance of Rob Reiner, the beloved actor and director who tragically died with his wife, Michelle Reiner, in December.
Conan O’Brien hosted the 2026 Oscars, delivering a memorable performance that included several standout moments. You can read a full recap of the display here.
