More than 60 percent of dentists in Belgium have agreed to participate in a new national fee agreement, ensuring price stability for patients in the coming years. The agreement, finalized on March 12, 2026, establishes the rates dentists can charge for services through 2027.
The National Institute for Health and Disability Insurance (RIZIV) confirmed that 60.48% of dentists across the country have either fully or partially signed on to the agreement. This participation is crucial for the agreement to take effect nationally and within each arrondissement.
The “National Agreement” sets key terms between dentists and health insurance funds, specifically outlining the fees that participating dentists are permitted to charge. The agreement’s success hinges on the level of dentist participation.
Detailed results will soon be presented to the national dental-health insurance commission and the Insurance Committee, and will be published on the RIZIV website. More information is available on the RIZIV website.
This agreement follows previous negotiations, including a deal reached in January 2020 regarding fees for dentures, extractions, and fillings, as reported by Het Laatste Nieuws. The move underscores the ongoing efforts to regulate and stabilize dental care costs in Belgium.
