A recent surge in traffic fatalities has prompted alarm in Los Patios, Colombia, where seven people have died in road accidents in the last 30 days. The latest victim, Brian Omar Díaz Tavera, known to friends as Betty, adds to a growing number of casualties on local roads. The escalating death toll underscores the dangerous conditions for travelers in the region.

The most recent incident occurred shortly after 11:00 p.m. On Friday, February 27, as Díaz Tavera was returning home to the barrio Tierra Linda neighborhood. He died on the La Floresta road, near calle 37, under circumstances still under investigation.

Authorities report that no other vehicles appear to have been involved in the crash. Preliminary investigations suggest excessive speed and a loss of control may have contributed to the accident, causing Díaz Tavera’s black Honda motorcycle to collide with a roadside barrier while traveling toward Cúcuta.

Following the initial impact, the motorcycle slid approximately 20 meters before striking a tree. The collision was described as violent and fatal, and Díaz Tavera was pronounced dead at the scene.

Díaz Tavera, a sales representative, was the fifth motorcyclist to die in a traffic accident in Los Patios in under ten days. His death bears similarities to that of Sebastián Dueñas, who died Thursday after colliding head-on with a tree on the municipality’s main avenue.

Police are continuing to investigate the causes of the accident, hoping to provide answers to the family and address the worrying traffic situation in the municipality. The ongoing investigation aims to determine the precise factors that led to this latest tragedy.
