Former “Real Housewives of Salt Lake City” star Jen Shah was greeted by a welcoming crowd in salt Lake City Wednesday, marking her early release from federal prison. Shah, who pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud in connection with a nationwide telemarketing scheme, served roughly half of her initial six-and-a-half-year sentence receiving multiple sentence reductions before being released to community confinement last week. Despite the emotional homecoming, Shah will remain under supervision for five years and is required to participate in mental health treatment.
Emotional scenes unfolded at Salt Lake City International Airport on Wednesday as Jen Shah was greeted by a jubilant crowd of friends and family following her early release from prison.
The former “Real Housewives of Salt Lake City” star, who arrived on a commercial flight from Texas, couldn’t contain her joy, beaming as she received flowers, hugs, and kisses from loved ones. Photos captured Shah visibly moved to tears by the outpouring of support.
Shah had been incarcerated at the Federal Prison Camp, Bryan, before being transferred to community confinement last week. A Bureau of Prisons spokesperson confirmed she was “transferred” to “community confinement overseen by the Bureau of Prisons’ (BOP) Phoenix Residential Reentry Management (RRM) Office.”
At one point, Shah connected with well-wishers via FaceTime, sharing the moment with those unable to be at the airport. She sported a burnt orange coat layered over black clothing and oversized animal-print sunglasses, her hair styled straight for her return.
Shah’s release comes after serving roughly half of her sentence. She was released from prison despite initially being sentenced to six and a half years.
The Bureau of Prisons explained that community confinement “means the inmate is in either home confinement or a Residential Reentry Center (RRC, or halfway house).” Her specific location was not disclosed “for privacy, safety and security.”
Despite the early release, Shah will be under five years of post-release supervision, including drug and alcohol testing, and will participate in an outpatient mental health program while continuing prescribed medication.
Shah was picked up from prison by her husband, Sharrieff Shah, and their two sons, Sharrieff Jr., 31, and Omar, 21, in a heartwarming reunion captured in a video obtained by ABC’s “Nightline.”
Shah’s legal troubles began in 2021 when she was arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering related to a nationwide telemarketing scheme. The case captivated viewers of “The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City” and sparked widespread media coverage.
Initially pleading not guilty, Shah ultimately pleaded guilty to one count in July 2022.
Six months later, she was sentenced to six and a half years and ordered to forfeit $6.5 million in assets and pay restitution to victims. She reported to prison in February 2023.
After multiple sentence reductions, news emerged in November that Shah would be released in time for the holidays.
Her representative stated at the time that Shah considered the timing of her release a “gift she doesn’t take for granted,” adding that she “will be able to reunite with her family for the holidays.”
The representative also shared that Shah was in a “really positive” and “hopeful” state of mind.
“She’s done a lot of reflecting and real growth during her time away and is genuinely not the same woman as she was before,” the representative insisted. “Her focus is on her family and building a healthier, more grounded life.”
“She understands the seriousness of the mistakes she made and is excited to put this chapter behind her so that she can show everyone the woman she’s worked hard to become.”
As for her future with “RHOSLC,” executive producer Andy Cohen has ruled out a return to the franchise.
