The couple shared their personal reflections while filming the new program frans & Mariska, Stellen op de Proef, offering a relatable glimpse into a common, yet emotionally complex, life transition for parents.Alongside fellow personalities Frans and Mariska, de Munk and Sluyter are also anticipating a new chapter as they prepare to welcome their first grandchild, a development prompting discussions about family location and future plans.

A sense of change is on the horizon for Danny de Munk and his wife, Jenny Sluyter, as they navigate the challenges of an empty nest.

The couple shared their experience during the filming of their new program, Frans & Mariska, Stellen op de Proef, describing the emotional impact of their son Jan moving out and beginning a more independent life. The phenomenon, known as empty nest syndrome, is a common experience for parents as their children transition to adulthood.

Mariska, also experiencing this shift, related to the couple’s feelings. “When I spoke with Danny and Jenny a few months ago, I immediately felt a pang,” she shared. “With one child now living independently, I sometimes open his room and just… think about it.”

Frans added that the moment marked a significant realization for them. “It’s not something you just brush off,” he said. “We hadn’t fully processed it while we were in Spain filming the program. And then suddenly, someone flies the coop.”

Despite the emotional adjustments, Frans and Mariska are looking forward to the future. “We’re going to be grandparents, so we’re already thinking about how that will change things, especially if we ever decide to live in Spain, and not in Fijnaart,” Frans explained. Mariska jokingly added, “But then we’ll just bring them all with us and confiscate their passports. They won’t be going anywhere!”

Frans previously expressed being “speechless” upon learning he would become a grandfather. More details can be found in the video below.
