A South Florida woman was fatally shot by her husband early Tuesday, December 23, in what authorities are investigating as a domestic violence incident. The death of Fayanni Andreina Ramírez Matute, a mother of three, is prompting renewed attention to the issue of domestic abuse in the region.
Broward County Sheriff’s Office identified the suspect as Mario Alejandro Ramírez Leandro, 37, who is now charged with second-degree murder in connection with his wife’s death.
According to police reports, officers responded to a call regarding a domestic dispute at an apartment in Oakland Park, Florida, during the early morning hours. Upon arrival, Ramírez Matute was pronounced dead at the scene. Ramírez Leandro was found with self-inflicted injuries.
The couple had lived in the Oakland Park apartment complex, located on the 4100 block of their street, for over a year, Univision reports.
Court documents reveal a history of domestic violence in the relationship. In December 2023, Ramírez Matute filed a restraining order against Ramírez Leandro following allegations of prior abuse and death threats. He was arrested at that time on charges of aggravated assault with a weapon and kidnapping.
