Beijing announced a ban on the export of certain items to Japan on Wednesday, June 6, citing national security concerns. The move, which targets materials with both civilian and military applications, signals a further cooling of relations between the two countries.

China’s Commerce Ministry stated the ban immediately prohibits the export of dual-use items – products that can be used for both commercial and military purposes – to Japan. According to the ministry, the restrictions are intended to prevent these items from being used to bolster Japan’s military capabilities.

The statement warned that any organization or individual, regardless of country, violating the export ban will face legal consequences.
