Businesses in Ciudad Guayana are facing a challenging start to 2026, with diminished customer traffic and rising costs impacting operations across the food and entertainment sectors.

The beginning of 2026 has been sluggish for food businesses in Ciudad Guayana, forcing some restaurants and quick-service establishments to temporarily suspend operations or increase prices due to low customer turnout and economic uncertainty. This trend reflects broader concerns about consumer spending and inflationary pressures within the region.

Enrique Alarcón, manager of a quick-service restaurant in Los Olivos, stated that the year “started slow.” Despite the location being open for less than six months, the first week of January saw underwhelming performance.

The restaurant, like many others, has been compelled to raise prices to align with current market conditions. A well-known food vendor in Alta Vista issued a statement explaining that increased supplier costs necessitated “a considerable adjustment in prices” to “maintain quality.”

Businesses in Alta Vista

While businesses in Alta Vista haven’t experienced issues with operating hours, establishments located behind the Movistar Tower are facing different challenges.

A similar situation is unfolding in the Río Negro area, where several businesses have already reduced their operations, and some have yet to reopen for the year.

Others have simply announced “vacations,” with many open establishments expressing hope for a “normalization” of cash flow in the coming weeks. However, they also emphasized that price increases are a necessary measure to maintain profitability.

This situation underscores the economic uncertainty facing entrepreneurs in Ciudad Guayana during January. The need to balance maintaining operations with rising costs presents a significant hurdle for local businesses.

Nightlife Establishments

Businesses focused on entertainment, particularly those in shopping centers, are largely remaining open with regular hours. Cinemas, for example, are maintaining their usual screening schedules, with showings running until 10 p.m.

Nightclubs are also normalizing their operations, with entry permitted until late into the night starting Saturday, January 10th. This suggests a potential rebound in the nightlife sector as the month progresses.
