Despite a decades-long public and professional partnership, Maja Rutkowski admits she initially hesitated when pursuing a romantic relationship with Krzysztof Rutkowski. In a new interview, Maja candidly discusses her early reservations, the evolution of their highly-publicized romance, and her own growing independence-even contemplating life without her husband. The Polish celebrity couple, married as 2019, are opening up about their dynamic and future as they navigate personal loss and individual ambitions.
Maja Rutkowski Initially Had Doubts About Her Relationship with Krzysztof Rutkowski
Maja and Krzysztof Rutkowski first met in 2012, when Maja sought assistance from Krzysztof’s firm. He immediately fell for her, and quickly took the lead in pursuing a relationship. However, Maja wasn’t initially convinced it was the right move.
“Back then, being with Rutkowski felt a little awkward. He was fun company for a while, but not relationship material. Absolutely not. Krzysztof could see I was just having fun, but not looking for something long-term. My heart was telling me one thing, but my head was saying something else,” she told Party magazine.
The couple welcomed their son, Krzysztof Junior, the following year. Four years later, Krzysztof proposed to Maja on live television, a moment that sparked controversy due to the sensitive legal matter they were dealing with at the time.
Today, the couple – who married in 2019 – are known for their unique and vibrant dynamic, and appear incredibly close. Their public statements suggest they can’t imagine life apart, but Maja approaches their relationship with a pragmatic outlook.
Maja Rutkowski Prepared to Continue Life Without Krzysztof: “If He Weren’t Here, I’d Still Go On”
Maja has increasingly stepped into the spotlight herself, confidently pursuing her own professional endeavors. One significant challenge was her participation in “Królowa przetrwania” (Queen of Survival). She also frequently grants individual interviews.
Becoming independent from her husband is a source of pride for her. The 40-year-old is confident she could manage perfectly well if he were no longer in the picture.
“With each passing year, I’m more pleased to see that Krzysztof needs me more than I need him,” she stated in an interview. “He says I’m the foundation. And I’ve learned through various experiences that… if he weren’t here, I’d still go on.”
However, she’s also mindful of preparing for the possibility, having experienced loss in the past.
“(…) After the deaths of my in-laws, and my father, I’m learning to live and mentally preparing myself to function if he’s no longer here, if any of my loved ones are taken from me. I think that’s good for a relationship,” she added.
Maja Rutkowski Knows What She’ll Do If Her Husband Passes Away: “I’m Absolutely Certain”
The topic of loss comes up in private conversations between the couple. Maja already knows what she would do if her husband were to die.
“(…) Krzysztof and I often talk (…) about who would go first, [what would happen] if something were to happen. I’m certain I’ll never have another man. Krzysztof is the one, the last,” she said.
The Rutkowskis understand the importance of functioning both as a couple and as individuals.
“We talk a lot, but we also know how to enjoy our lives when we’re not together. We manage our responsibilities. That’s beautiful,” she concluded.
