BRATISLAVA, Slovakia — A Slovakian journalist is continuing to receive medical treatment more than a year after a brutal attack while reporting in Trnava. Kristína Kövešová, a reporter for Markíza television, was seriously injured in the October 2024 assault and continues to experience health complications.
Kövešová is known for her investigative reporting on serious crimes, including child abuse, animal cruelty, and organized crime groups. Her work has often led to the prosecution of offenders. In 2024, she began investigating a particularly problematic group operating in Trnava.
The group, known for theft, armed threats, and violent assaults – often targeting women and the elderly – attacked Kövešová while she was reporting on their activities. “We have been dealing with a very serious case for several weeks – attacks, threats, and very brutal fights, often against women and older people, that are happening in Trnava on Farársky Street,” Kövešová reported on social media at the time.
Immediately following the attack, Kövešová shared a video from her hospital bed, visibly injured. “We went to this location and I was attacked. I am still in the hospital, as you can see still covered in blood, with a broken nose, a concussion, and a spinal injury. We are waiting to see what happens, but I will continue to report on this case as long as I can,” she said.

More than a year later, Kövešová recently revealed she is still receiving ongoing neurological care. “After the attack on Farársky Street, which was over a year ago, I regularly visit the neurological clinic. Doctors say there is serious damage to my cervical spine (vertebrae pressing on the spinal cord) and requires long-term treatment… They are alleviating movement restrictions and relieving pain… I apologize for not always being able to respond, but sometimes we fight like this too. PS: Of course, we will never give up!” she wrote to her followers. The ongoing health issues underscore the lasting impact of the attack.
The man who attacked Kövešová was convicted of assault and released after several months in prison with a suspended sentence. Experts have indicated he remains a threat and is capable of further violence. Kövešová subsequently shared video evidence of the same man attacking another woman, who sustained even more severe injuries. “Here you can see him, along with others from Farárske, attacking another woman in the past. She ended up in worse condition than I did. We will continue to cover the Farárske case. Let’s not forget the decent people who live there,” she added.
