Bad Bunny has wiped his Instagram account clean, even deleting his profile picture, a move that has surprised his 53 million followers on the social media platform.
The Puerto Rican artist also unfollowed all accounts he was previously following. The now-empty account features only a link to his album ‘DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS’.
Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio’s disappearance from the Meta-owned social network came just hours after his history-making Super Bowl LVI halftime performance at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, where the Seattle Seahawks defeated the New England Patriots.
Since his culturally rich and Latinx-affirming performance, Bad Bunny’s name has dominated headlines, social media feeds, and television coverage. The show featured appearances by Lady Gaga and Ricky Martin.
In a statement, Apple Music, which sponsored the Super Bowl halftime show, said the artist’s performance generated “unprecedented engagement” from fans worldwide.
Immediately following the halftime show, Bad Bunny’s simultaneous listeners spiked, solidifying the global superstar’s performance as one of the year’s most talked-about musical moments, according to real-time listening data from Apple Music.
Spotify streams of Bad Bunny in the United States increased by 470%, and global streams grew by 210% after his Super Bowl halftime show.
Cardi B, Alix Earle, Jessica Alba, Pedro Pascal and Karol G were also among those who attended the performance. Bad Bunny made history last month by winning the Grammy Award for Best Album, the first time an all-Spanish-language album has received the award.
The move comes as Bad Bunny continues to break records and solidify his position as a global music icon. His Super Bowl performance was a watershed moment for Latin music, and the subsequent surge in streaming numbers demonstrates his widespread appeal.
