Ukrainian pensioners may spot an increase in their benefits this year beyond standard indexation adjustments. Some retirees will receive an automatic increase to their monthly payments simply by reaching a certain age.

The Pension Fund announced the details of age-related benefit increases.

In 2026, the supplemental amounts will be as follows:

  • Individuals aged 70–74 will receive up to 300 hryvnia;

  • Those aged 75–79 will receive up to 456 hryvnia;

  • Pensioners 80 and older will receive up to 570 hryvnia.

The additional payment begins the month a pensioner reaches the qualifying age. If a birthday falls on the first of the month, the full supplemental amount will be included with that month’s pension payment. If the birthday is later in the month, the increase will be applied for the remainder of the month.

Pensioners who reach 75 are not necessarily receiving an additional 456 hryvnia. This is because a portion of the increase may already be factored into their existing payments. For example, if a person received a 300 hryvnia supplement at age 70, they will receive an additional 156 hryvnia when they turn 75, bringing the total increase to 456 hryvnia.

Eligibility for Supplemental Payments

A key requirement for these age-related supplements is the pensioner’s overall benefit amount. If a monthly pension exceeds 10,340.35 hryvnia, the age-related supplement is not applied. If the pension is slightly below this threshold, the supplement may be partially applied.

For instance, a 70-year-old receiving a pension of 10,300 hryvnia would receive a supplemental payment of only 40 hryvnia, ensuring the total does not exceed the established limit. No further increases would be applied.

The 10,340 hryvnia limit is tied to the average wage in Ukraine as of 2020, as stipulated in existing regulations. Despite adjustments to economic indicators and indexation, this figure remains the cap for age-related supplements. The age-based supplement system was first implemented in 2020.

As previously reported, pension indexation is scheduled for the spring of 2026. However, not all pensioners will see an increase. Those who have retired within the last three years, as well as those receiving “special pensions,” are excluded. This includes military personnel, judges, prosecutors, Chernobyl victims, and other groups whose benefits are governed by separate legislation.
