Actor James Van Der Beek has passed away, according to reports from the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office in Texas. He was 48 years old. The office reported the time of death as 6:44 AM on February 11, 2026, but has not yet released an official cause of death.

Van Der Beek publicly revealed his battle with colon cancer in late 2024, discussing his diagnosis and treatment journey in an emotional appearance on “Good Morning America.” Due to health concerns, he also had to withdraw from a planned reunion with his “Dawson’s Creek” co-stars in September 2025.

Wife Honors Late Husband

Following the news of his death, his wife, Kimberley Van Der Beek, shared a heartfelt message on Instagram, stating that her husband spent his final days “with courage, faith, and grace.” She requested privacy for the family during this difficult time.

James Van Der Beek is survived by his wife and their six children: daughters Olivia, Annabel, Emilia, and Gwendolyn, and sons Joshua and Jeremiah.

Advocacy Through Awareness

Just weeks after his diagnosis became public, Van Der Beek participated in a two-hour special of “The Real Full Monty” in December 2024. The program aimed to raise awareness for preventative screenings and research related to prostate, testicular, and colon cancers.

Van Der Beek first gained widespread recognition in the late 1990s for his starring role in the series “Dawson’s Creek,” a teen drama that became a cultural touchstone. He went on to appear in films such as “Scary Movie” and “Varsity Blues,” as well as the series “Pose.” His career spanned decades, showcasing his versatility as an actor.
