A former Chinese official has been expelled from the Communist Party and removed from his government post due to serious disciplinary violations and alleged illegal activities. The decision regarding Wang Houhai, who previously served as deputy secretary of the Zhongshan District Committee and district chief of the Zhongshan District government in Dalian, was announced on February 13, 2026, by the Liaoning Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection.

According to reports from Xinhua News Agency, Wang Houhai is accused of losing his ideological faith and abandoning his original mission. He allegedly violated the central eight-point regulations on conduct and improperly accepted gifts and money.

Wang Houhai’s career included positions as a member of the Standing Committee and head of the Political and Legal Committee of the Lushunkou District Committee in Dalian, as well as deputy district chief and, later, district chief of the Zhongshan District. Baidu Baike details his progression through these roles.

The investigation into Wang Houhai began in November 2025, when he was placed under disciplinary review and investigation for suspected serious violations of discipline and law. The Liaoning Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection has now transferred his case to the public prosecution authorities for legal review and prosecution, with the illicit gains seized also being transferred.

This action underscores the ongoing anti-corruption efforts within the Chinese Communist Party. The case highlights the continued focus on rooting out misconduct among government officials at various levels.
