Google Limits Quick Share Transfer Times for Unknown Contacts
Google is implementing a time restriction on Quick Share transfers to individuals not in a user’s contacts, limiting file sharing to a maximum of ten minutes. This change, recently reported, aims to enhance security and control over data shared via the platform.
Quick Share, Google’s file-sharing service, facilitates direct transfers between Android devices. The update restricts the duration of open connections for recipients who are not saved in the sender’s contacts. This move comes as data privacy and security concerns continue to grow, prompting tech companies to refine their sharing protocols.
Currently, Quick Share allows for indefinite file transfers between contacts. Still, when sharing with an unknown number, the connection will now automatically close after ten minutes, even if the transfer isn’t complete. This limitation is designed to prevent potentially unwanted or malicious file transfers from lingering and consuming bandwidth.
The change is rolling out to Android devices and is part of Google’s ongoing efforts to improve the security and user experience of its services. The update signals a broader trend in the tech industry toward more cautious data-sharing practices.
