Oyster Recall Issued Due to Norovirus Concerns

Consumers in British Columbia and potentially other provinces and territories are being warned about a recall of oysters from Stellar Bay Shellfish due to possible norovirus contamination, according to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). The recall was initiated on February 12, 2026, after cases linked to the consumption of the oysters were identified.

The affected products include Farmed Oyster, Kusshi varieties with various harvest and process dates in January 2026. Specific details regarding harvest dates, process dates, and harvest locations (BC 17-20 Nanoose Bay CLF #1401656) are available in the official recall notice. Norovirus is a highly contagious virus that causes gastroenteritis, and recalls like these are crucial for protecting public health.

The CFIA advises individuals not to consume, utilize, sell, serve, or distribute the recalled oysters. Consumers are urged to check their refrigerators and discard or return any affected products to the place of purchase. A similar recall notice was also reported by am1320.com on February 13, 2026.

Symptoms of norovirus illness typically develop within 12 to 48 hours of exposure and include diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, and stomach cramps. Even as most people recover within a day or two, adequate hydration is significant to prevent dehydration, and severe cases may require hospitalization and intravenous fluids. It’s also important to note that individuals can become re-infected with norovirus even after recovering from an initial illness.

According to the CFIA, the oysters were distributed primarily in British Columbia, but may have reached other provinces and territories. As of February 13, 2026, no illnesses have been reported in connection with the recalled oysters, Global News reported, but consumers are still advised to take precautions.

Anyone who believes they may have become ill after consuming the recalled oysters is encouraged to contact their healthcare provider.
