Naples Boy Remains on Heart Transplant List After Procedure Complications

Naples, Italy – A young boy who underwent a heart transplant in December remains on the waiting list for another transplant, according to a recent announcement from the Monaldi Hospital. The news comes as the child faces ongoing health challenges following the initial procedure, highlighting the complexities and uncertainties inherent in organ transplantation.

The hospital confirmed the boy will stay on the transplant list, as reported by Campania Crime News on February 15, 2026. Details regarding the specific complications that necessitate a second transplant have not been released.

In a separate incident on Wednesday, February 17, 2026, Carabinieri in Giugliano in Campania arrested two men suspected of drug trafficking. The arrests occurred during a surveillance operation on Via Orsa Maggiore, where authorities observed a suspicious meeting between two vehicles.

Carmine Roma, 22, of Naples, and Eugenio Nocera, a resident of Qualiano, were apprehended after police became suspicious of their behavior. A subsequent search revealed a quantity of cocaine, crack, and marijuana, already packaged for sale, along with 860 euros in cash. Both men have been charged with possession of narcotics with intent to distribute and are awaiting trial, according to Campania Crime News.

Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the extent of the drug distribution network operating in the area. The Carabinieri emphasized their commitment to combating crime and drug trafficking in the region.

Meanwhile, Enrico Furlan, a moral philosopher at the University of Padova, has commented on the case of the young boy awaiting a second heart transplant, stating, “Now the little one has the right to a dignified end. We stand with the family.” This statement, as reported by la Repubblica, underscores the emotional toll of prolonged medical challenges on both the patient and their family.

Previous reports detailed the difficult circumstances surrounding the initial transplant, including the condition of the donor heart upon arrival. According to la Repubblica, a surgeon stated, “When the heart arrived it was a block of ice, but we put it in anyway.”

The case of Domenico, the young boy from Naples, has also drawn attention to the complexities of transplant decisions. Mediaset Infinity reported that a recent request for a second transplant was denied by a committee of experts. Corriere Del Mezzogiorno reported the committee’s decision was based on the condition of the boy’s health.

ANSA reported that the boy’s condition is critical.
