Martin Cleared to Race in Thailand, Marquez Faces Early Setbacks in 2026 MotoGP Testing

Buriram, Thailand – Jorge Martin has received the green light from the FIM to participate in the upcoming MotoGP races in Thailand, marking a significant step in his recovery from recent injuries. The Aprilia rider has been working to overcome a period marked by setbacks, including surgery last December, and is eager to return to competition.

The 2026 MotoGP pre-season has presented challenges for Martin, who is aiming to contend for the championship alongside Ducati’s Marc Marquez. Martin has stated he has “no Plan B” to rivalling Marquez for the 2026 title, signaling his full commitment to the season ahead.

Meanwhile, Marquez experienced a difficult first day of testing at the Buriram circuit, suffering two crashes. This comes as Marquez transitions to Ducati after years with Honda, a move that opened a vacancy following the Japanese manufacturer’s declining performance in recent seasons. Ducati’s dominance began in 2022 with Pecco Bagnaia, and the team has now brought Marquez onboard to continue that success.

Martin, after achieving a championship victory with Pramac Ducati in 2024, opted to join Aprilia, seeking new challenges. Despite a challenging start to the season, including a severe accident in Qatar where he feared for his life, Martin is determined to compete at the highest level. The Buriram circuit will be the stage for his long-awaited return to racing.

The opening day of testing in Buriram also saw Martin return to the track, while Marquez navigated early difficulties. Detailed lap times from the Buriram test are now available for review.
