Latvia’s Top Music Honors to Return as Live Event
After a several-year hiatus, the Latvian Music Awards ceremony and accompanying gala concert will once again be open to the public, representatives from VSIA “Latvijas Koncerti” have announced. The event is scheduled for March 6, 2026, at the Cēsis Concert Hall, and tickets are currently on sale.
Ceremony and Concert in Cēsis
The Great Music Award is Latvia’s highest state award in music, presented annually since 1993. During the ceremony, laureates will be honored, and the celebratory concert will feature performances by Latvia’s most outstanding musicians. The event is organized by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Latvia in cooperation with VSIA “Latvijas Koncerti”.
Maintaining Tradition and Prestige
The high prestige of the Great Music Award is ensured by the work of a respected jury, whose members attend concerts throughout the year and meet monthly to evaluate artists’ performances. In early January, the jury nominates candidates, which are announced at a press conference, while the winners are revealed only at the award ceremony itself.
Culture Minister’s Perspective
Culture Minister Agnese Lāce emphasizes that holding the award ceremony outside of Riga highlights Latvia as an excellent example of a country providing state support for high-quality cultural events in all regions. “The Great Music Award is a thank you to the industry’s luminaries for their consistently high-quality performance both at home and in bringing Latvia’s name to the world,” Lāce stated. “At the same time, by holding the Great Music Awards outside of Riga, we want to emphasize that Latvia is an excellent example of how, thanks to state support, diverse and high-quality cultural events are available to residents in all regions of Latvia.”
