Chelsea Football Club has expressed its dismay following a barrage of racist abuse directed at Wesley Fofana.
The club released a statement on its website late Saturday evening.
Fofana was sent off during Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with Burnley, and has since been inundated with hateful messages.
The messages shared by Fofana on Instagram include monkey emojis and overtly racist language.
“2026 and it’s still the same. Nothing changes,” Fofana wrote in an Instagram story, adding, “They do big campaigns against racism but actually do nothing.”
Chelsea stated it will work with authorities and social media platforms to identify the perpetrators and pursue the “strongest possible action.”
