Katherine Short, the daughter of actor and comedian Martin Short, was found dead at her home in Hollywood Hills Monday evening.

The 42-year-old social worker was discovered around 6:00 PM local time, according to People.

“We see with immense sadness we share that Katherine Hartley Short has passed away,” a representative for the “Only Murders in the Building” star said in a statement.

“The Short family is heartbroken by this devastating loss and asks for privacy during this incredibly difficult time. Katherine was beloved by all who knew her and will be remembered for the light and joy she brought into the world,” the representative continued.

The cause of death has not yet been made public.

Katherine was one of three children adopted by Martin Short and his late wife, Nancy Dolman. She largely stayed out of the public eye, but occasionally attended events with her father.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology and gender studies from New York University in 2006, and a master’s degree in social work from the University of Southern California in 2010.

Katherine worked as a licensed clinical social worker in private practice.

She as well worked part-time at a community and psychotherapy clinic, as well as with the charity Bring Change 2 Mind, which works to combat the stigma surrounding mental health.

Katherine’s mother, Nancy Dolman, died of ovarian cancer in 2010.
