Lauris Strautmanis was recognized as the Shooter of the Year following a stellar 2025 season that saw him claim a European Championship title and set a new European record in small-caliber pistol shooting at the Olympic Shater Shooting Rock in France. Strautmanis also secured fifth and sixth-place finishes at the World Championships.
The Latvian marksman’s success didn’t stop there, as he earned two second-place finishes at the European Cup Final. He also contributed to a team victory at the World Army Championship in Norway. This impressive performance underscores Latvia’s growing strength in the sport of shooting.
The selection for “Team of the Year in Shooting Sport” proved particularly challenging for the federation’s board, given the significant achievements of Latvian teams on the international stage. The men’s adult team secured a silver medal at the European Championship in small-caliber pistol shooting, even as the under-18 junior team also claimed silver. A mixed pair secured seventh place at the European Championship in air weapon shooting and another mixed pair finished second at the European Cup Final.
The spring of 2025 marked a period of innovation in European shooting sport, with the introduction of continental championships for various youth and junior age groups, as well as new disciplines. Latvian female athletes seized this opportunity, winning silver medals at the European U18 Championship in the TRIO event. Each athlete also earned individual medals at the competition.
The “Team of the Year in Shooting Sport” award went to Kristiāna Agule, Alise Dvarišķe, and Līva Krūmiņa, the silver medalists from the European U18 Championship.
