Bayonetta 3 & MGR Remakes + New Game Reportedly in Development

Rumors circulating online suggest PlatinumGames may be working on three unannounced projects: a new Bayonetta game built in Unreal Engine 5, a remake of the original Bayonetta, and a remake of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance.

The information originated on a Chinese gaming forum and was subsequently discussed on Reddit, prompting speculation about the studio’s future plans. While unconfirmed, the source has previously accurately leaked details about Ninja Gaiden 4 prior to its official announcement, lending some credibility to the current claims.

According to the reports, the new Bayonetta title developed in Unreal Engine 5 would be the most ambitious of the three, with a projected release date as late as 2028. The rumored budget for this project is reportedly comparable to that of Final Fantasy XVI, a significant investment given the scale of Square Enix’s flagship franchises. This level of investment underscores the potential for high-fidelity graphics and expansive gameplay experiences in the next generation of gaming.

The remakes of both Bayonetta and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance would also be developed using Unreal Engine 5, and are anticipated to follow a quicker development timeline. Announcements for these projects are currently expected sometime in 2026, with potential releases in 2027.

With Ninja Gaiden 4 released and its first downloadable content on the horizon, it’s logical that PlatinumGames is initiating or progressing with new projects. Hideki Kamiya, the creator of the Bayonetta franchise, has indicated the series will continue despite his departure from PlatinumGames.

A remake of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance also appears plausible. Konami has been actively bringing the Metal Gear Solid catalog to modern platforms through the Metal Gear Solid Collection, and a remake of the franchise’s more action-focused title—without requiring the involvement of Hideo Kojima—could represent a simpler undertaking than attempting a new, canonical Metal Gear Solid game. This strategy reflects a broader trend of revisiting established IPs to capitalize on existing fanbases.

Other confirmed plans for PlatinumGames include continued support for NieR: Automata, announced alongside the game surpassing 10 million copies sold, and a job posting from August 2025 suggesting the development of a new online action game.

As of February 27, 2026, none of these projects have been officially confirmed by PlatinumGames. You can uncover more information on the rumors at Wccftech.
