Thousands of residents in Wrocław, Poland, are without heating and hot water following a major failure in the city’s district heating network. The outage, which began on February 27, is impacting a significant portion of the city, prompting authorities to work urgently to restore service.
The failure occurred on Lubuska Street, affecting a wide range of locales, including those on Grabiszyńska, Góralska, Manganowa, Stysia, Pereca, plac Pereca, Robotnicza, Owsiana, Skwierzyńska, Wysoka, Zaporoska and Żelazna streets, according to reports from RMF 24.
Fortum, the energy company responsible for the network, is working to repair the damaged main line. Officials initially estimated service would be restored by 10 p.m. On Saturday, February 28, but the situation remains fluid. Gazeta Wrocławska reports that repairs may continue into Monday.
Fortunately, temperatures are currently mild, with forecasts predicting several degrees above freezing overnight, lessening the immediate impact of the outage. TVP3 Wrocław notes This represents the latest in a series of recent infrastructure issues to affect the city.
The outage comes after Wrocław residents recently dealt with disruptions to their water supply. Wiadomości Onet reports that nearly half of the city’s population is affected by the heating and hot water disruption.
Authorities are urging residents to be patient as crews work to resolve the issue. Polskie Radio 24 has more on the developing situation.
