Millions of Brazilians struggle with compulsive pornography use, a silent issue often met with feelings of guilt and repeated attempts to stop. Now, a new app developed by a Brazilian engineer is aiming to help users break the cycle by leveraging behavioral data and personalized interventions.
Márcio Vinícius Alves da Silva created Mastracker, an application focused on mapping, preventing, and blocking relapse triggers. The tool has already surpassed 10,000 downloads on the Play Store and is receiving positive feedback. The rise of such apps highlights a growing trend of using technology to address personal wellbeing and addictive behaviors.
How Mastracker Works
Rather than relying solely on willpower, Mastracker utilizes behavioral data to identify patterns. According to app statistics, 70% of relapses aren’t driven by desire, but by boredom or stress. The app analyzes user history to predict vulnerable times – such as a lazy afternoon or during a shower – and sends intelligent notifications minutes before a peak risk of consumption. This proactive approach aims to interrupt the cycle before it begins.
The free version of the app includes an “essential survival kit” with features like a relapse-free day counter, a private journal for mapping triggers (such as insomnia or anxiety), a simple “S.O.S. Puzzle” designed to distract the brain during moments of intense urge, and guided breathing exercises for immediate control. All data processing is local, ensuring complete privacy.
Mastracker similarly integrates a personal assistant to offer tips on overcoming addiction, explain the negative effects of adult videos, and analyze user data. For more severe cases of compulsion, a premium subscription is available for R$14.90 per month or R$129.90 annually, offering features like intelligent notifications, advanced insights, ad removal, and additional puzzles and breathing exercises. A three-day free trial of the premium version is also offered.
The “Premium Mode
The app’s development comes as Brazil faces a growing issue with pornography consumption. Recent data from Pornhub indicates that Brazil has risen to the 4th largest source of traffic worldwide in 2025, trailing only the United States, Mexico, and the Philippines. Approximately 22 million Brazilians regularly consume pornography, with 76% being male and 24% female, and the majority (58%) under the age of 35. The average age of initial exposure is 12, with 66% of minors having been exposed to the content at least once.
The isolation caused by the pandemic has exacerbated the problem, with weekly consumption increasing from 44% to 54% (according to UFPEL data). The impacts of this widespread consumption are becoming increasingly visible in clinical settings, with rising cases of depression, severe anxiety, decreased professional performance, social isolation, and a significant increase in PIED (Pornography-Induced Erectile Dysfunction), which is damaging relationships.
The Brazilian Crisis, By the Numbers
Mastracker was conceived and developed by Márcio Vinícius Alves da Silva, who handled the entire product lifecycle from conception to publication on the Google Play Store using Flutter and Firebase. His operate demonstrates a growing trend of independent developers tackling complex social issues with innovative technological solutions.
