Emelec and Delfín SC played to a 1-1 draw on Saturday at Estadio George Capwell in Guayaquil, Ecuador, in Emelec’s official debut of the 2026 Liga Ecuabet season. The hard-fought result leaves both teams searching for their first win of the campaign.
Luca Klimowicz broke the deadlock in the 59th minute, capitalizing on a feed from Segura and slotting a shot past Brian Heras. Yet, Delfín responded with a goal from Mejía, who finished a play started by a strong challenge and assist from Gerónimo Heredia, leveling the score at 1-1.
The draw leaves Emelec near the bottom of the Liga Ecuabet standings with -2 points. The club began the tournament with a three-point deduction due to outstanding payments owed to the Ecuadorian Football Federation (Ecuafútbol). Delfín, meanwhile, sits second in the league with 4 points.
Saturday’s action kicked off with two other matches ending in 1-1 ties. Leones FC and Libertad FC drew, allowing Libertad to climb into first place in the league table. Later in Guayaquil, Guayaquil City and Aucas also split the points.
The opening weekend of Liga Ecuabet began on Friday with a 1-1 draw between Técnico Universitario and Orense.
The schedule continues tomorrow with three more matches: Liga de Quito versus Macará at 12:00 PM, Mushuc Runa against U. Católica at 2:30 PM, and Deportivo Cuenca hosting Barcelona SC at 5:00 PM. (D)
