Luciano Darderi claimed his fifth career title on Sunday, March 2, 2026, at the BCI Seguros Chile Open in Santiago, Chile, winning all of his trophies on clay. The world No. 21 defeated Germany’s Yannick Hanfmann, ranked No. 81 (with a career high of No. 45), in the final 7-6(6), 7-5. With the victory, Darderi becomes the ATP player with the most red clay court titles earned since the start of 2024 – one more than Carlos Alcaraz.
“It’s my first title since Umag. I arrived in Santiago after the final in Buenos Aires, the conditions are a little different here, and I managed to win the tournament,” Darderi said after the final. “Now we prepare for Indian Wells, where I arrive with a lot of confidence. This year I also reached the round of 16 in Australia, the quarterfinals in Auckland. I’m playing at a high level, I’ve earned a lot of points that I didn’t have last year. Right now it means a lot to me, so I’m happy.”
Darderi’s success, which makes him the second player with the most match wins since the beginning of 2024 (48, one less than Argentina’s Francisco Cerundolo), came less than 24 hours after Flavio Cobolli’s triumph in Acapulco. This marks the fifth time in the Open Era that two Italian players have celebrated two ATP titles in the same week.
