One window cleaner died and another was injured Monday after becoming entangled in safety ropes and falling from an apartment building in Surabaya, East Java, authorities said.
“One has been evacuated and taken to the hospital. Thankfully, he is still conscious,” said M. Rokhim, Head of the Surabaya Fire Department, according to local reports.
“The other is still being lowered from the 25th floor, and is deceased,” he added.

Both workers were in the same gondola at the time of the incident. Rokhim indicated that strong winds were likely a primary factor in the accident. The injured worker was thrown from the gondola despite using safety equipment.
“It was the strong wind. The wind was exceptionally strong with the rain earlier,” he said.
Rokhim stated that rescue efforts and medical assistance remain the priority, as is determining the cause of the incident.
