Jim Carrey is known for his expressive face, but many viewers thought the actor looked strikingly different at a recent awards ceremony, prompting speculation about possible cosmetic surgery.
The actor’s altered appearance quickly sparked a flurry of comments online, and theories began to emerge. Those theories gained traction with a new development in the story.

Appeared to Receive an Award
Jim Carrey (64) has kept a relatively low profile in recent years. The Canadian actor, famous for films like “Dumb and Dumber,” the “Ace Ventura” series, “Bruce Almighty,” “Me, Myself & Irene,” and “The Truman Show,” stepped back from acting in 2015 following the death of his then-girlfriend.

However, he made a personal appearance on February 26, 2026, to receive an honorary award at the César Awards in Paris, presented by the French Film Academy.
Reaction to His Appearance
Carrey delivered an emotional acceptance speech – and in French, no less – but it was the actor’s appearance that drew attention. The performance highlights Carrey’s continued influence in international cinema.

“Unrecognizable”
Social media lit up with comments about the actor’s appearance. Many believed Carrey had undergone plastic surgery or Botox treatments. Some thought the actor was completely unrecognizable, and others speculated whether it was actually Jim Carrey or a look-alike.
The situation became even more confusing when drag artist Alexis Stone posted a picture of Jim Carrey (?) in Paris, with the short caption “Alexis Stone as Jim Carrey in Paris.”
Stone is known for creating incredibly convincing impersonations of famous faces using makeup and latex, and many on X and other social media platforms believe this confirms the theories that emerged after the César Awards ceremony.
This could easily be dismissed as a bid for attention following the uproar over the images of Jim Carrey. But given what Stone has achieved in the past, it’s hard to say. Below, you can see him as Glenn Close – and the resemblance is striking!
Here, Stone shared an article from The New York Times, which covered his transformation into Jack Nicholson at a fashion show in Paris:
Known for Stunts
The confusion surrounding the truth about the César Awards presentation is complete. What initially sounded like wild theories may suddenly seem somewhat plausible – thanks to Jim Stone’s skills as a “disguise artist.”
It similarly helps that Jim Carrey himself has never shied away from wild stunts, especially after his starring role in the film about comedian Andy Kaufman, “Man on the Moon” from 1999. Jim Carrey went to great lengths to “develop into” Andy Kaufman, and reportedly remained in character almost continuously throughout the four-month-long shoot.

Andy Kaufman was himself an eccentric character with a penchant for taking on roles, such as the extremely rude character Tony Clifton. In connection with Jim Carrey’s method acting approach to “Man On the Moon,” he also became Tony Clifton from time to time.
Jim Carrey as Andy Kaufman as Tony Clifton, that is… It’s perhaps not surprising that people are confused about what is true or not after the awards ceremony in Paris last week.
