Indonesia Announces Eid al-Fitr Bonuses for Millions
The Indonesian government has announced it will distribute holiday bonuses, known as Tunjangan Hari Raya (THR) and Bonus Hari Raya (BHR), to civil servants, military personnel, pensioners, and private sector employees before the start of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr in 2026. This move aims to boost economic activity ahead of the major Islamic holidays.
According to reports, approximately 10.5 million civil servants, contract government workers, military members, police officers, and pensioners will receive the bonuses. Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati confirmed the plan, Kompas.tv reported. The bonuses will include various components, the details of which have not yet been fully disclosed.
The distribution of THR and BHR is also expected to extend to employees in the private sector, though the timing and amounts for private sector bonuses will be determined separately. The government’s announcement comes as preparations are underway for the upcoming religious observances, which are traditionally a time of increased spending, and travel.
In related news, civil servants can also anticipate receiving a 13th-month salary in June, according to detikFinance. This additional payment is intended to provide financial support to state employees.
However, the distribution of THR in Kabupaten Malang is currently facing delays due to regulatory issues, with Rp 90 billion in funds currently held up, Radar Malang reported.
