Presidential candidate accused the club’s leadership of threatening a member.

. Leandro Calixto, vice president of the Sporting da Nazaré supporters group, has clarified an incident reported by Bruno Sorreluz, a candidate in the club’s upcoming presidential election. Sorreluz had revealed a member’s claim of being “threatened” even as attempting to organize fan gatherings under the Sporting brand.
“The events in question took place in 2019 when we were officially contacted by a Sporting employee regarding an event that a group of supporters from one of the parishes of Nazaré was organizing, in which they were using the official symbol and name of Sporting Clube de Portugal without proper authorization,” reads a statement provided to Record. “The Sporting Clube de Portugal da Nazaré supporters group contacted the event organizers to convey this information. Subsequently, the event organizers contacted us to request the group’s support for the event, which was approved at a meeting of the board at the time, on the understanding that all expenses and all profits would be the responsibility of the event organizers. The event took place without incident, attended by hundreds of Sporting fans from the region on a beautiful day, once again demonstrating the strength of Sporting Clube de Portugal,” the statement concludes.
