Actor Teddy Syach married Anne Kurniasih on November 27, 2022, following the passing of his wife, Rina Gunawan, in 2021. The marriage marks a new chapter for the actor, and he’s recently opened up about the quick connection that led to his decision to propose.
Teddy revealed that he didn’t feel the need for a lengthy courtship with Anne, opting instead for a more direct approach after being introduced by a mutual friend. “I was introduced by a friend of mine. And honestly, I wasn’t really looking to date,” Teddy shared during an appearance on the Trans7 program For Your Pagi (FYP).

Anne echoed this sentiment, explaining that neither she nor Teddy were actively seeking a relationship when they met. “Actually, we were both not looking for partners. Teddy wasn’t, and neither was I. It just felt like fate, a match from God. We were brought together suddenly, and I didn’t even know him beforehand,” Anne explained.
Anne honors the memory of Rina Gunawan
Beyond embracing her role as a stepmother to Teddy’s two children from his previous marriage, Anne has also expressed deep respect for the late Rina Gunawan. She doesn’t see herself as a replacement for Rina, but rather as someone who complements the family and continues to support Teddy’s children.
“My main focus is respecting my husband’s past and his children. I’m not here to replace anyone, but to add to the family, to carry on as a support system for the children, just as Bunda [the late Rina Gunawan] did,” Anne said.
Anne views Rina Gunawan as a wonderful mother figure and feels she cannot be compared to her. “I see Bunda as a kind soul, a truly remarkable woman. Comparing myself to her doesn’t even feel right. She was more than I am,” she added.
Previously, Anne spoke publicly about Rina Gunawan, acknowledging her significance in Teddy’s life. “Bunda was a part of Teddy’s life, a part of his heart. I suppose she’s also a part of his soul. I have to acknowledge her. If possible, I want her to be a part of me too,” Anne shared on the podcast ALVIN in LOVE in 2024.
Teddy sought his children’s blessing before marrying Anne
Before tying the knot with Anne, Teddy made sure to seek the approval of his two children, Aqshal Ilham Syafatullah and Karnisya Rahmasyach, from his marriage with the late Rina Gunawan.
Teddy found it effortless to gain their blessing, as his children were mature enough to understand his decision. “It was very easy because the children, as they’ve grown older, have their own lives and concerns. So I have my life, and they have theirs. I married with their approval,” Teddy stated, as quoted by YouTube insertlive.
“The key is communication, how the prospective wife and the children communicate well,” he continued.
Teddy had a strong feeling that Anne was the right person for him when he first met her, believing she would be a loving wife and mother to his children. “When you feel something, it’s indescribable. That’s my experience – I knew she could be a mother and a wife,” Teddy said.
“My children are my blood and the blood of the late [Rina Gunawan]. Logically, I seem at my children. If they don’t object, I consider that their approval,” he explained.
This news comes as Indonesian entertainment continues to garner international attention, with actors increasingly sharing personal stories with the public. Anne’s respectful approach to her new family dynamic has been widely praised.
