After years of speculation, Ubisoft has officially acknowledged the development of a remake of Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag. The project, now titled Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced, was briefly mentioned in a recent brand update for the franchise, signaling a potential reveal is on the horizon.

Ubisoft’s statement on the long-rumored remake was concise, stating: “Speculation around Assassin’s Creed is not new, but it is worth repeating: ‘Nothing is true. Everything is permitted.’ Well, except in this case, some whispers have a little more wind in their sails. Keep your spyglass on the horizon.” This acknowledgement follows numerous leaks and reports regarding the project’s existence.

Whereas the update confirms the remake is in development, Ubisoft did not provide a specific release timeframe. The company continues to outline “upcoming updates” for the Assassin’s Creed series without detailing Black Flag Resynced. Though, the acknowledgement offers reassurance to fans eager to revisit the world of piracy as Edward Kenway.

The original Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag, released in 2013, remains a fan favorite for its open-world Caribbean setting and focus on naval combat. Remakes and remasters of popular titles are a growing trend in the gaming industry, allowing developers to revisit beloved franchises with modern technology and updated gameplay. According to a report from IGN, a listing on the PEGI European ratings board revealed that Black Flag Resynced will include in-game purchases, a feature not present in the original release. This could potentially include cosmetic items or downloadable content, similar to the approach taken in the most recent installment, Assassin’s Creed: Shadows.

The confirmation of Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced comes after reports surfaced in December 2025 suggesting the game could arrive as early as March 23, 2026, as detailed in Polygon’s coverage. Ubisoft’s financial results indicated an “unannounced” game slated for release before March 31, 2026, which was subsequently identified as the Black Flag remake. GameRant notes that rumors of the remake began circulating as early as June 2023.
