Bahrain’s military reported intercepting and destroying 86 rockets and 148 drones launched from Iran beginning on Saturday, though no impacts within the country were immediately reported. The announcement comes amid heightened regional tensions following Iranian attacks.
Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Defense announced via X that 16 drones targeting Shaybah, one of the largest oil fields in the Middle East, were intercepted early Saturday. The ministry did not specify the origin of the drone attack.
The Shaybah oil field, located in the remote Empty Quarter desert, produces one million barrels of crude oil per day, according to the Saudi Aramco state oil company.
In 2019, the Shaybah field, along with other Saudi oil facilities, was the target of large-scale drone attacks carried out by Yemen’s Houthi rebels. The recent incident raises concerns about potential disruptions to global energy supplies.
