Quebec Storm: Ice & Snow Expected Tuesday Night

A significant winter storm is forecast to impact Quebec beginning Tuesday evening, bringing a mix of freezing rain, snow, and blowing snow. The approaching system has prompted weather alerts and concerns across several regions of the province.

According to early reports, southern Quebec could receive between 5 and 15 millimeters of freezing rain if warmer air moves northward. This could create extremely slippery conditions on roads and sidewalks. The potential for hazardous travel conditions is a major concern as the storm approaches.

However, the exact nature of the storm remains uncertain. If colder air prevails, the precipitation could shift to heavy snowfall, with some areas potentially accumulating several centimeters quickly. The region of Quebec City and areas further north could see between 10 and 20 centimeters of snow, depending on the storm’s track.

Meteorologists emphasize that the key to predicting the storm’s impact lies in the movement of warmer air. If this air rises further north, southern regions may experience primarily rain. Recent data indicates that between 5 and 10 mm of freezing rain fell in the Outaouais and Greater Montreal areas as of December 29, 2025.

In addition to the precipitation, strong winds are expected, with gusts reaching approximately 70 km/h. These winds could create blowing snow and reduced visibility in certain areas. The impending storm is being described as a “major event” by forecasters.

Officials are advising residents to prepare for the storm by having shovels ready and taking necessary precautions for travel. The precise trajectory of the system, even a shift of a few dozen kilometers, could significantly alter the type of precipitation expected.
