The 28th Polish Film Awards, known as the Orły (Eagles), delivered a moving moment as Tomasz Schuchardt took home the award for Best Actor. The win recognized his powerful performance in Wojciech Smarzowski’s film, “Dom dobry.”
Upon accepting the award, Schuchardt immediately acknowledged his wife, saying, “I would like to thank my wife the most in the world, and for allowing me to play at art thanks to her. The greatest awards are the two daughters she gave me, so that is the most important thing to me.” Cameras then focused on his wife, visibly touched by his words.
Schuchardt continued his acceptance speech, offering gratitude to Smarzowski. “I would exceptionally much like to thank a certain guy from Podkarpackie…” he said, referring to the director. “I promise you, Wojtek, that I will say this one last time, but I will say it. He’s a guy who desperately tried to hide behind an axe, but it doesn’t work for him since his heart sticks out from behind it. Thank you for this project and for inviting me to it. I hope this won’t just be a film. The fact that so many people went to notice it will be the beginning of a discussion. I inquire viewers to react to violence.”
The actor also extended a special thank you to his co-star, Agata Turkot. “I wish you only wonderful roles, because you deserve them,” he said. He concluded by sending a message to his eldest daughter: “Dad says hello. She probably doesn’t even know I’m an actor, because I star in non-family films.”
The Orły Awards are considered Poland’s equivalent of the Oscars, celebrating the best in Polish cinema. Schuchardt’s win for “Dom dobry” is a significant achievement, adding to the film’s critical acclaim and sparking conversations about its themes.
