SALATIGA, Indonesia – Local officials are urging residents of Salatiga City to take precautions against a recent increase in dengue fever cases. The warning comes as two confirmed cases have been identified in the Dukuh Benoyo, or Karangpete, area of Kutowinangun Lor, Tingkir District, and several other residents are experiencing fever-like symptoms consistent with the disease.
Dance Ishak Palit, Chairman of the Salatiga City DPRD (Regional People’s Representative Council), reported the confirmed cases on Monday, March 9, 2026, stating that the affected individuals are currently receiving medical care in a hospital. Dengue fever is a mosquito-borne viral infection that can cause flu-like illness, and in severe cases, can lead to life-threatening complications.
In response to the outbreak, Palit has directed the Salatiga City Health Department to immediately implement fogging measures to control the Aedes aegypti mosquito population, the primary vector for the disease. “We do not want this case to spread, fogging must be carried out immediately, and we will continue to monitor the health condition of residents in the area,” Palit said.
Palit emphasized the potential for rapid transmission, particularly during the rainy season and in the lead-up to the Lebaran (Eid al-Fitr) holiday. Maintaining a clean environment and eliminating standing water, where mosquitoes breed, is crucial for prevention.
“Do not underestimate this disease, be vigilant about stagnant water around the house, and immediately take preventive measures,” Palit added. The call for vigilance underscores the importance of community involvement in public health initiatives.
Palit expressed hope that increased awareness and community cooperation will minimize the spread of dengue fever, especially as the Lebaran celebrations approach. The Health Department has similarly advised residents to report any symptoms of dengue fever – including high fever, muscle pain, and skin rash – promptly to receive appropriate medical attention.
