Katie Leung Doesn’t Want to Relive Harry Potter Fame

Katie Leung, best known for her role as Cho Chang in the Harry Potter film series, says she doesn’t want to revisit that period of her life. The actress explained that she was very young and still discovering who she was when she first stepped into the spotlight.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Leung shared that experiencing intense public scrutiny at a young age made her particularly susceptible to the opinions of others. “I was very young, and it was simple to be influenced by what people said about me because I didn’t really know who I was,” Leung said on Tuesday, March 10, 2026.

Leung now feels she’s in a different place, focusing more on her work and gaining a stronger sense of self. This feeling has grown, she says, with recent projects like her role as Lady Araminta Gun in the hit series Bridgerton.

“I don’t want to go back to that time,” Leung stated. “It’s not because I had a bad experience, but it’s nice when you start to know who you are.”

First Experience

Leung first appeared as Cho Chang in 2005’s Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. She reprised the role in several subsequent films, including Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2.

In a separate interview with Variety, Leung also revealed that her work on the Harry Potter franchise was her first acting experience. She described being thrown into a large-scale production with dozens of cameras and crew members while still learning the fundamentals of acting.

“It was my first job. I’d never acted before, and suddenly I was in front of so many cameras and crew,” Leung explained.

Now, she feels more confident taking on new projects, such as her voice work in the animated series Arcane and her role in Bridgerton. The actress’s reflections offer a candid glance at the challenges of navigating fame at a young age, a story that resonates with many young performers in the entertainment industry.
