Rumors had circulated in the weeks leading up to the event that the reporter from ‘El Chiringuito’ might be a fighter, but it remained largely speculation. Now, it’s confirmed, and his opponent will be Gastón Edul.
Gastón Edul is 30 years old and has around 5 million followers across his social media platforms. While he may not be as well-known in Spain as some other journalists, he gained widespread recognition in 2022 for interviewing Lionel Messi after Argentina’s match against the Netherlands during the Qatar World Cup.
On December 9, 2022, Argentina secured their spot in the World Cup semifinals after defeating the Netherlands in a penalty shootout. The match was contentious, with several clashes between players from both teams extending beyond the final whistle. Following the game, Gastón Edul began interviewing Messi, but the Argentine quickly turned his attention to Dutch player Wouter Weghorst, saying, “¿Qué mirás, bobo? ¿qué mirás, bobo? ¡Anda para allá, bobo!” (“What are you looking at, idiot? What are you looking at, idiot? Go over there, idiot!”)
