A bus fire in western Switzerland has left at least six people dead and several others injured, authorities reported on Tuesday, March 10, 2026. The incident, which is currently under investigation, occurred in the town of Kerzers, approximately 20 kilometers (12 miles) from the capital, Bern.
According to early reports, the bus was traveling from Düdingen, a municipality located 17 kilometers south of Kerzers, when the fire broke out around 6:25 PM local time. The tragedy highlights the potential for devastating consequences in transportation incidents and has prompted a large-scale emergency response.
Emergency services responded to the scene, and a helicopter was deployed to assist with the rescue efforts, as reported by the BBC. At least three of the injured were transported to a hospital for treatment, and one rescuer was as well hurt during the operation.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire, and have not ruled out the possibility of it being deliberately started. Witnesses reportedly saw a man dousing himself in gasoline, according to web Blick, but police have yet to confirm this information.
