Health officials in Salatiga, Indonesia, are urging residents to take precautions against a recent rise in dengue fever cases. The warning comes as two individuals in the Dukuh Benoyo/Karangpete area of Kutowinangun Lor, Tingkir district, have been confirmed to have contracted the mosquito-borne illness and are currently receiving hospital treatment.

Several other residents are also experiencing fever symptoms consistent with dengue fever, prompting a swift response from local authorities. Dengue fever is a significant public health concern in tropical and subtropical regions and early detection and prevention are crucial.

Dance Ishak Palit, Chairman of the Salatiga City DPRD (Regional People’s Representative Council), has instructed the Salatiga City Health Office to immediately implement fogging measures to control the Aedes aegypti mosquito population, the primary vector for the disease. “We do not want this case to spread, fogging must be carried out immediately, and we will continue to monitor the health condition of residents in the area,” Palit said on Monday, March 9, 2026.

Palit emphasized the potential for rapid transmission, particularly during the rainy season and in the lead-up to Eid al-Fitr, a major Islamic holiday. Seasonal changes and large gatherings can often exacerbate the spread of infectious diseases.

Residents are being advised to maintain strict cleanliness around their homes and eliminate any standing water sources where mosquitoes can breed. “Do not underestimate this disease, be vigilant about stagnant water around the house, and immediately take preventive measures,” Palit added.

Officials are hoping that increased public awareness and community cooperation will help minimize the spread of dengue fever, especially as the Eid al-Fitr celebrations approach. The Salatiga City Health Office is also reminding individuals to seek immediate medical attention if they experience symptoms such as high fever, muscle pain, and skin rash. (rief)
