At least six people were killed and five injured in a bus fire in Kerzers, Switzerland, on Tuesday evening, with authorities investigating the possibility of arson. The incident, which occurred in the canton of Fribourg, has prompted a large-scale emergency response and raised concerns about potential foul play.

Police reported receiving notification of the blaze at approximately 6:25 PM local time on Tuesday, March 10, 2026. A press conference held on Tuesday evening revealed the casualty count, with officials stating that three of the injured are in critical condition. One of those injured was an ambulance worker who had arrived to provide assistance.

According to reports from Blick, police are exploring the possibility that the fire was intentionally set. Investigators are examining information suggesting a person may have doused themselves in gasoline on the bus, though this remains unconfirmed. “A deliberate act may be behind this tragedy,” police in the canton of Fribourg stated.

While authorities have not ruled out any possibilities, a police spokesperson indicated during the press conference that it was too early to determine if the incident constituted a terrorist attack. The process of identifying the deceased is currently underway.

The bus fire underscores the potential for violence even in typically peaceful regions and is likely to prompt increased security measures in Switzerland. Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
