Argentina Week Kicks Off in New York with Investor Outreach and Milei Address
New York City hosted the launch of Argentina Week on Monday evening, an event designed to attract foreign investment into the South American nation. The initiative began with a reception at the Argentine consulate in Midtown Manhattan, drawing a crowd of approximately 400 bankers, investors and officials. The event precedes a key address by President Javier Milei on Tuesday at JPMorgan headquarters.
Guests at the reception included Bill and Hillary Clinton, as well as actor Cillian Murphy, alongside a significant number of individuals in business attire navigating security checks to attend the event. Argentina Week aims to convince international companies of the opportunities available in the country, as the government seeks to bolster its economy.
The push for foreign direct investment comes after Argentina secured financial assistance from the International Monetary Fund and the U.S. Government, and implemented measures such as a capital pardon and the privatization of state assets. President Milei is expected to outline his administration’s plans for fiscal adjustment, deregulation, and labor market flexibility during his speech at JPMorgan. The event underscores the government’s focus on economic reform as a means of attracting capital.
The Argentina Week gathering includes government officials, bankers, and investors, with 11 of the country’s 24 provincial governors too in attendance. This concentrated effort to engage with the international financial community signals the importance Argentina places on securing investment to address ongoing economic challenges.
