Authorities in Kaolack, Senegal, have arrested three individuals in connection with a string of burglaries targeting businesses in the city’s commercial district. The arrests follow an investigation that identified a primary suspect and two individuals allegedly involved in receiving stolen goods, operating between Touba and Mbacké.
The Kaolack central police station announced the dismantling of a suspected burglary and fencing network operating within the city’s commercial center.
The operation began after police received intelligence regarding a suspicious individual near the market area. Security guards from a private security firm initially intercepted the man while he was carrying two sewing machines and approximately 20 lengths of fabric. He initially fled, but was apprehended by law enforcement officers.
During questioning, the suspect confessed to burglarizing a sewing workshop located in the market. Investigators determined he is a repeat offender with multiple complaints filed against him since December 2025.
Police established that the suspect is responsible for the theft of at least five sewing machines and around 100 pieces of fabric over the past several months. The thefts have impacted local businesses and raised concerns about security in the area.
Further investigation led to the arrest of two alleged receivers based in Touba and Mbacké. One admitted to purchasing a stolen sewing machine for 65,000 CFA francs, while the other was found in possession of another stolen machine seized by investigators.
All three suspects are currently in police custody. The investigation is ongoing to determine the full extent of the network’s activities.
