The world of survival horror rarely sees developers and actors alike caught off guard by the final product. However, the talent behind the latest zombie adventure found the experience more unsettling than anticipated. Angela Sant’Albano, who portrays the game’s protagonist, knew what to expect on screen, but the reality proved a true test of her nerves. Resident Evil Requiem’s intensely dark atmosphere clearly didn’t spare even the seasoned crew from moments of fright.

Fright at the London Studio

The story centers on Grace Ashcroft, a technical analyst who encounters a wealth of infected blood and terror throughout her journey. Actress Angela Sant’Albano, who brings Grace to life, believed she was prepared for what lay ahead. Despite this, she was genuinely terrified during a recent gameplay session. Sant’Albano tested Capcom’s latest release at the Red Bull Gaming Sphere in London, alongside Emma Rose Creaner, who plays the character of Emily. Even after just fifteen minutes of gameplay, the experience was enough to induce genuine fear.

Sant’Albano shared a humorous video of the experience on Instagram, writing, “Totally panicked… and that was only 15 minutes!!!” The footage captures Sant’Albano’s visibly frightened reactions, culminating in a near-miss with the controller hitting the ceiling. A scream accompanied by an expletive is followed by a series of expressive faces conveying genuine terror. The most comical moment occurred when someone gently touched her shoulder, causing her to whirl around as if facing a monstrous Licker. This highlights the immersive and reactive nature of modern game design.

Panic is Understandable

In Sant’Albano’s defense, it’s worth noting she spent considerable time immersing herself in Grace’s psyche during production. The character’s frantic breathing and constant questioning of what’s happening naturally surfaced. The intense reaction is understandable, given the game’s terrifying nature. Even legendary director Hideki Kamiya pleaded for a completely scare-free game mode. Perhaps it’s time to let Grace live in peace!
